sharing is caring
This weekend I had the privilege to travel to Gainesville, Georgia, and teach a church body about “Hearing the Voice of the Lord” in their everyday and participate in an exercise called an Ask The Lord, or ATL for short.
An ATL is simply waiting on and asking God to show you something specific to guide you through your day. The story of Charlie was an ATL, as was Justin’s experience. God showed up this way in Georgia too, but for me that was not the highlight of the weekend.
Throughout the few days I was there, I saw young people and adults begin to understand that their lives have purpose. Through stories like Charlie’s and others, people began to grasp that God wants access to their everyday as much as He wants their hearts.
As I shared story after story of God’s faithfulness I saw God prick people’s hearts, and watched as He slathered on His love. That is the power of story.
the stand outs
There were moments that stood out to me. Moments that won’t make a great blog post on their own, but that will forever be woven into my memory and my heart. Moments like when a young boy walked up to me and told me his dad was an alcoholic and asked if I could pray for him.
Moments like the one when I sat around a table with three young girls watching life spring into their eyes as I shared what God was laying on my heart in that moment. There was a moment when God gave me a very specific thing to say to someone, and when it was done, the tears and the healing of the moment was a perfect example of how intimate our Father can truly be.
Also, in the few minutes at the end of a service when a typically shy and more reserved woman was used to speak to her church family about the heart of her Dad, and the revival that is on both of their hearts. That moment blew me away.
Over and over again my Dad showed me that He is at work in the hearts and lives of men, women, boys and girls. He has always been an author, and He is writing both a greater overarching story (of how He wins back the love of man) and smaller, more intimate stories like your’s and mine.
Have you ever shared your story with someone? What happened when you did?
